Dear Parents & Guardians,
Welcome to another wonderful school year! My name is Mrs. Ackerman and I am your child’s science teacher. This year we will be using Interactive Science Notebooks along with a science binder to help your child stay organized, engaged and responsible for their individual learning. Please ask to see this notebook often as it is CRITICAL to their success this year! If your child is in the seventh grade, we will be learning the New York State life science curriculum. If your child is in eighth grade, we will be learning key concepts in physical and Earth science, along with chemistry and reviewing life science concepts in preparation for the 8th grade NYS Intermediate Level Science Exam.
In order for your child to have the most successful school year he/she must:
- Bring their agenda to all classes & record homework assignments daily
- Complete ALL homework check it off in the agenda
- Arrive on time and participate appropriately in class on a daily basis
- Take all class notes (AIM, Do Now, etc.)
- Read over/Respond to class notes each night (study skill)
- Study for exams ahead of time & complete class projects/labs
- Be willing to come in on his/her own time for extra help & ask for help when needed
Along with this, I am very excited about incorporating various technologies in the classroom! We will be using a series of websites throughout the year to assist in your child’s learning along with tech devices. Some of these websites are:
www.ackademic.com class website for all the latest vocabulary, events, assignments and reinforcement activities
www.quizlet.com our vocabulary hub!
http://newonlinelearning.newpathlearning.com/ reteaches content in an easy to understand, visual & auditory way
https://www.remind.com/classes/72056f forgot when a project is due? when is our next test? Remind101 is all you need!
www.classdojo.com track behavior choices throughout the period & earn incentives
Please take some time to check these sites out and familiarize yourself with how to check homework, quiz your child on vocabulary, etc.
Communication is key, so please feel free to contact me whenever you have questions or concerns.
