One of the best sites I’ve come across lately for cell review is I Know That. They have a kid-friendly plant & animal cell review activity that also reads each of the organelle names. You can also look at cells under a microscope to give you a chance to see “real life cells”. I highly suggest you visit this site!
My students loved this Scale of the Universe interactive I showed them when we were learning about cells. It really helped put the size of organelles into perspective with other objects for them….very visual! Today, I was put on to the latest scale project…this time the interactive was created by 14yr old twin boys! Read more about them here
You can check out the original mock up of their scale here. Their latest version below is MUCH more detailed & eye-catching! So have fun scrolling from left to right to zoom in or out and relate the objects size & space to those around them…..pretty cool!!
Do you remember how to find the % of a number? Check out this really great video that reviews all of the basics and even reviews how to convert percent to a decimal….excellent!
Do you know the difference between plant & animal cells? Sheppard Software offers tutorials, games & quizzes to help you compare & contrast these cells. Give them a look!
One of the best sites for all things cells is The University of Utah’s Genetic Science Learning Center aka Learn.Genetics. They offer an in-depth look inside the cell. The organelles, quick animations detailing the functions of each, as well as a great interactive to help you review all of the organelles. It’s a great resource to help you review for a quiz!
Check out this great interactive from The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis. It focuses on the Cell Theory, prokaryotic & eukaryotic cells & plant and animal cells….nice & simple but complete.
